Craig Hospital Celebrates National Volunteer Week 2017

April 25, 2017

This year, National Volunteer Week is celebrated April 23 - 29, 2017. Craig Hospital is fortunate to have over 225 volunteers on a regular basis donating more than 17,700 hours during 2016. Given that the latest value of volunteer time is $23.56/hour, the volunteer time donated to Craig in a year is $417,012! While the dollar value can be estimated, the number of smiles, laughs, comfort and care that the volunteers bring into the halls of Craig Hospital is priceless! And, we cannot even calculate the number of hours donated by clubs and organizations on campus and in the community for Craig Hospital.

Currently, volunteers are placed with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Nursing, Chaplaincy, Research, Food Service, Foundation, Engineering, Clinical Care Management and Pharmacy. In fact, the Gift Shop is staffed entirely by volunteers and all of the proceeds go back to the hospital.

We are so grateful to each and every volunteer who donates their time and energy towards making Craig Hospital a world class rehabilitation hospital.

This year, we will present the Jim Richard’s Volunteer of the Year award to previous staff and long-time volunteers Sam and Donna Andrews, and Gift Shop volunteer, Pat Hance. They will be honored at the volunteer dinner in June.

Remember to recognize our volunteers with a special high five, hug and thank you this week!
