Craig Hospital is fortunate to have more than 250 volunteers on a regular basis who donated 19,871+ hours during 2019. Given that the latest value of volunteer time is $25.43 per hour, the volunteer time donated to Craig in the past year was $505,345!
“While we can translate the volunteer time into dollars and cents it's impossible to put a price on the care, compassion and pure joy our volunteers bring to Craig Hospital," Jill Stelley Virden, Craig Volunteer Manager, says. "The volunteer contribution to helping make Craig Hospital a world-class rehabilitation center is immeasurable.”
Craig volunteers are placed throughout the hospital, including with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Nursing, Spiritual Care, Research, Food Services, Foundation, Engineering and Clinical Care Management. From sewing volunteers to pet therapy providers to Pedal 4 Possible fans, Craig receives vital support every single day from its volunteer force.
One significant source of volunteer support for the hospital is that the Gift Shop is staffed entirely by volunteers, and all of the proceeds go back to the hospital.
We are so grateful to each and every volunteer who donates their time and energy toward supporting Craig patients and families and contributes to Craig's culture of care.
Even during our current time of social distancing during the COVID-19 outbreak, we are touched by the virtual and long-distance support that Craig volunteers continue to provide. For example, sewing volunteers are making masks from home, and pet therapy volunteers are sending photos of holiday cheer.
