Empowering Lives through Craig's Therapeutic Recreation Adventure Program

February 10, 2017

According to the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) the purpose of National Therapeutic Recreation Month is “to enhance public awareness of therapeutic recreation programs and recreational therapy services.”

Craig Hospital’s Therapeutic Recreation Adventure Program offers unique opportunities for travel, sports and outdoor recreation. Through this, our grads have discovered that there are no limits to their recreational interests.

We offer a wide range of activities for alumni and current patients. Here in beautiful Colorado we enjoy hot air ballooning, flying and gliding, sailing, skiing, camping and rafting, hand cycling, fishing, and hunting to name a few.

Some of our adventures take us on exotic trips to scuba dive in places like Cayman Brac and Cozumel, local and national cycling tours and races, cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, and surfing along the coast of Hawaii's finest beaches.

The powerful impact of this program brings together newly injured individuals with alumni to create lasting friendships and peer relationships enhancing the experience of the Adventure Program even more.

Therapeutic Recreation, like many of the programs that contribute to Craig’s unique Culture of Care, is not covered by insurance companies and relies on charitable support to offer services to Craig patients, grads and their families.
