May 06, 2014

Craig Hospital patients and The PEAK Center at Craig Hospital clients will have more options for aquatic therapy as soon as construction is complete on the new PEAK Center at Craig Hospital this August. The new fitness and wellness center will feature two therapy pools—a standard pool for swimming and a new state-of-the-art HydroWorx® pool with a treadmill for locomotor training.

Workers install the HydroWorx® pool in the new PEAK Center at Craig Hospital

The HydroWorx® 1200 series was installed last week in The PEAK Center at Craig Hospital's new location— the lower level of the extended West building. The new pool features an adjustable floor to provide patients easy access to the water without a lift. The entire floor of the pool doubles as a variable speed treadmill, to provide more repetition of walking during a therapy session. Therapists will be able to view and analyze a patients walking pattern , using the pool’s underwater cameras and viewing monitors.
“This new pool will allow us to use aquatic therapy more effectively and in later stages of the recovery process than we are currently able to,” said Candy Tefertiller, PT, DPT ATP, NCS, Craig Hospital’s Director of Physical Therapy.

The HydroWorx pool includes a water resistant handheld remote control and resistance jets for swimming or a deep tissue massage.

The completion of The PEAK Center at Craig Hospital is the first phase of the multi-year campus expansion and renovation construction project. Over the next 3-4 years, Craig Hospital will add approximately 85,000 sq. feet of new space, renovate approx. 135,000 sq. feet of existing space, and complete an enclosed and safer campus with a cul-de-sac main entrance and accessible front garden area.
