Overview

Craig Hospital is offering a free 1.5-day course for community members or agency employees who are interested in working with individuals living with spinal cord or brain injuries. Care partners (caregivers) will learn practical skills and foundational knowledge through a mix of online learning and hands-on practice. Upon completion of the course, care partners will receive a certificate of attendance, printed course booklet and access to online resources.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will receive training in:

  • Understanding brain and spinal cord injuries – including common risk factors and challenges associated with each diagnosis
  • What it means to be a care partner – defining the role and scope of caregiving
  • Mobility support – safe transfer techniques, proper body mechanics and injury prevention
  • Respiratory care – supporting breathing and lung health
  • Bladder and bowel management techniques – promoting dignity and independence
  • Maintaining skin integrity – best practices to prevent pressure injuries
  • Wheelchair positioning – how to support proper posture and comfort

Who Should Attend?

This training is intended for individuals who are:

  • Working as professional caregivers or interested in entering the field
  • Providing care to individuals with neurologic disabilities

Language: This course will be taught in English.

  • October 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This 1.5 day course is held in-person at Craig Hospital located at 3425 S. Clarkson St., Englewood, CO 80113.

Registration

This course is open to registrants on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 12 participants at a time.
