Important Message from Pickleball Ken and the PFH Event Committee:

Dear Pickleballers,

Although many of us are looking forward to the summer months and hoping to be able to get together to play this wonderful game we love, Pickleball, we have decided we will NOT host this year’s tournament, 2021 Pickleball for Heroes.

Unfortunately, our community has taken a tremendous economic hit this year and a number the generous donors that made our tournament successful will not be able to support us at the same level. In addition, the restrictions related to gatherings are still quite unclear at the present and our planning work should have already started. We hope to host our event again in August or September of 2022.

While the Tournament has been put on pause temporarily, the needs of our Veterans continue. The Pickleball community has generously supported Craig Hospital’s Operation TBI Freedom program, contributing more than $330,943 over the years. The program still needs your help to offer individualized, relationship-oriented case management for our Veterans who have returned from conflict with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Your support helps Operation TBI Freedom clients like John. As a veteran of the Iraq war, John was engaged in up-close conflict and experienced both a traumatic brain injury and PTSD. His injuries started a downward spiral and he was eventually living on the streets. But that’s all behind him now. With the help of his Operation TBI Freedom counselor, John is two years clean and sober, has a new fiancé and a six-month-old daughter, and he just closed on his first house.

While we might not able to play together in August, you can still make a difference for Veterans like John by donating to the program through the donation form at the bottom of this page or by selecting Craig Hospital as your charity of choice when purchasing items through Amazon’s Smile program.

If you have any questions about the Pickleball for Heroes Tournament, please contact Pickleball Ken at 303 929-3878

Thank you for your ongoing support, and stay safe!

High-level pickleball champions and novice players alike will compete in the 6th Annual Pickleball for Heroes tournament from August 27-29, 2021. 100% of the Tournament proceeds will be donated to Operation TBI Freedom. A registration link will be posted when it becomes available.

Since 2000, more than 7,200 Veterans in Colorado have returned from conflict with traumatic brain injuries. For those with this serious yet often invisible injury, the transition to civilian life can be especially difficult. To meet the needs of Veterans with TBI, Operation TBI Freedom (OTF), a donor-funded 501(c)(3) program of Englewood’s Craig Hospital, offers individualized, relationship-oriented case management with certified brain injury specialists. The OTF staff provide Veterans with crisis and suicide prevention counseling; emergency funding; employment and education assistance; mental and medical health referrals and support; outdoor recreation/therapy and adaptive equipment; and a variety of psychosocial educational programming, including financial management and parenting classes.
