A special Craig Hospital webinar providing support, education and connection for individuals living with brain injury and their family members/caregivers
There is a large amount of research available that has the potential to impact living well after brain injury. Being able to identify and understand research data can help you and your family advocate for your needs and live well after brain injury.
Craig Hospital physicians Andrew Park, MD, Eric Spier, MD, and Michael Makley, MD, discuss where to locate clinical research related to brain injury, how to understand it, current research findings and how to participate in research.
About the Speakers
Dr. Michael Makley has more than 20 years of experience taking care of people with brain injuries. Prior to Craig Hospital, he served as the Medical Director of Kernan Hospital at University of Maryland and chaired and co-directed many brain injury specific clinics and committees. Since joining Craig Hospital in 2013, he serves as Medical Director of Brain Injury Model Systems and chairs several committees within Craig including the Ethics Committee.
Dr. Eric Spier serves as the Brain Injury Program Medical Director at Craig Hospital. He also serves as neurorehabilitation consultant at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver as well as the Medical Director of multiple community brain injury and rehabilitation programs, such as Learning Services and Rehab Without Walls. After building and serving as the Medical Director for Mentis El Paso, a 24-bed post-acute neurorehabilitation program that served West Texas, New Mexico and surrounding areas, he joined the medical staff at Craig Hospital in 2016.
Dr. Andrew Park joined Craig Hospital in 2021 and shares his time serving as one of the physicians at Craig Hospital and as a research scientists with the Craig Research Department. His primary research role at Craig Hospital is to build capacity for translational molecular and medically directed research topics and building collaborations across multiple scientific expertise. His interests related to today’s talk are in early detection and prevention of secondary complications after injury, and biomarkers research utilizing high through-put biobanking.
