Bridging the gap between intensive care and rehabilitation
At Craig Hospital, we know that timing is everything after a spinal cord or brain injury. For some patients, the road to recovery starts not with immediate rehabilitation, but with a critical period of stabilization. That’s where our new Neuromedical Unit (NMU) comes in.
Why the NMU Matters
Every year, thousands of people face life-changing injuries. Many are ready to begin rehabilitation right away. But others still need time to heal before they can safely participate in the intense therapies Craig is known for. Right now, these patients often spend weeks—or even months—in hospitals without Craig’s expertise in neurological injuries. This can lead to serious medical complications and delays in recovery.
The NMU is designed to change that.
Efficient Use of Medical Benefits
Efficient use of medical benefits for patients with significant medical needs, allowing them to receive the necessary care at Craig before transitioning to rehabilitation.
12 new patient rooms
12 new patient rooms dedicated to patients who are not quite ready for full rehabilitation.
Specialized Medical Care
Specialized medical care to prevent complications, such as infections and skin wounds, that can delay recovery.
Light Rehabilitation and Education
Light rehabilitation and education, giving patients and families a head start on their rehabilitation journey.
