Specialty Hospitals Offer Better Outcomes

Specialty hospitals like Craig have years of experience treating individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and brain injuries (BI). These dedicated facilities have patient and family support programs designed for SCI and BI patients, and the staff at specialty hospitals know how to help families navigate complex SCI/BI care at an emotionally challenging time.

Choosing a rehabilitation program that specializes in SCI or BI therapies means:

  • Improved functional independence
  • Reduced medical complications
  • Relevant education and resources
  • Improved productivity
  • Lower long-term costs
  • Better preparation and support for a successful future

Benefits of Choosing a Specialty Hospital

Because specialty hospitals put together a custom team of physicians, therapists and caregivers, every patient’s plan is designed with unprecedented expertise.

  • High-quality staff with focused experience
  • Peer support from patients with similar injuries
  • Specialized patient and family education and resources
  • More options to participate in research studies
  • Access to services not found in most rehabilitation centers
  • Specialized long-term support

Patient Empowerment

At Craig, we believe in empowering patients to fully participate in their program of care. Your journey will take teamwork, and you are the most important member of the team. We will work alongside you and your loved ones to maximize your recovery and empower your independence. Your rehabilitation is built on your individual needs, moved forward by our staff’s tenured expertise and multiplied by your own determination and perseverance. We’re here to care for you and your family as a whole unit whose needs and goals are as unique as your injury.

Bring the Whole Family

Families are critical to the rehabilitation process, and Craig Hospital highly values family inclusion at all levels. We have high expectations for family involvement. Families are welcome at Craig and are highly encouraged to participate in therapy sessions, conferences and community outings with their loved ones.

A Home Away From Home

With nearly half of Craig’s patients traveling from outside of Colorado and an average length of stay of 70+ days, our facilities and teams are specialized in helping patients and their families feel at home for extended periods of time. Families can remain close in our on-site Patient and Family Housing or apartments within walking distance. Hospital-led activities and peer connection frequently fill evenings and weekends, and features like laundry machines, kitchens, gyms, a recreation room, gardens and local neighborhood amenities are close by and accessible to our families and patients.

Peer Mentorship

Craig’s Peer Mentor Program fosters connections between people in the community living with spinal cord injury and/or brain injury. After medical care and therapies, there can be a gap into the unknown for individuals who are re-entering the community. A peer mentor can bridge that gap by providing insight into what life may look like in the community and share stories of their life experience to offer a glimpse into living with a disability. Working with a peer mentor may provide the opportunity to collaborate with someone in a similar situation to achieve a well-lived life.
