After a diving accident left 17-year-old Emmett unable to move, his world—and his family’s—shifted overnight. His parents quickly sought out the best care possible and found Craig Hospital, drawn by its spinal cord injury expertise and dedicated adolescent program. Though uncertain at first, Emmett was soon welcomed by a group of teens who understood exactly what he was going through. That sense of community, combined with Craig’s intensive therapy and family-centered support, gave him the strength to move forward.
Emmett threw himself into therapy—seven hours a day—working toward his goal of walking again. Just weeks into his stay, he took his first unassisted steps. Ninety days after his accident, he walked out of Craig on his own. Along the way, he regained more than physical strength—he rebuilt confidence, independence, and friendships. He also prepared for his senior year with support from Craig’s donor-funded School Program, setting his sights on a bright future.
Today, Emmett is thriving as a college student and small business owner. His family often reflects on their time at Craig with gratitude. “Craig gave Emmett the freedom to work as hard as he wanted and the support to reach his goals,” says his mom, Cheri.
