Since the Department of Defense began surveillance tracking in 2000, over 500,000 service members have been documented as having sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Here in Colorado—where veterans represent a little over 7% of the population, exceeding the national average of just over 6%—many veterans and service members return from service with TBIs. For those living with this serious yet often invisible injury, the transition to civilian life can be especially challenging.

Operation TBI Freedom (OTF) provides long-term, individualized support tailored to each veteran’s needs. Most clients are in regular, often weekly, contact with their Military Support Specialist and receive services for approximately 24 months. On average, the cost to serve one veteran over this two-year period is $5,000.
