The Leading Edge of Rehab Tech
Our team is excited to be part of the community providing opportunities for individuals with neurologic disabilities. This is a hopeful time in the field of neurologic rehabilitation where research shows the ability of exercise to benefit individuals in terms of recovery, health and fitness.
Examples of leading edge technology available during personal training sessions for qualified clients at The PEAK Center include:
RT600 FES Elliptical Trainer
The RT600 FES Elliptical supports clients with impaired lower extremity movement in an upright position in order to perform active movement. It uses a body support harness and functional electrical stimulation (FES). The trainer stimulates up to 12 muscle groups and helps decrease muscle atrophy while increasing muscle activity in lower extremities. It also provides benefits such as relaxation of muscle spasms, increased circulation and assists to maintain or increase range of motion.
Upper Extremity RT 300 FES Bike
The RT 300 upper extremity FES is a multichannel device that utilizes the functional electrical stimulation to stimulate the nerves of the upper extremities. This bike can stimulate up to 12 muscle groups including any of the major groups in the arms, shoulders and trunk in a pattern creating cyclic arm motion on the bike. The RT 300 is used to relax muscle spasms, prevent atrophy, increase local blood circulation and maintain or increase range of motion.
Xcite FES System
The Xcite system is a multichannel device that utilizes the functional electrical stimulation to stimulate the nerves in coordination with various functional movements. The system can stimulate up to 12 muscle groups and can be used for upper extremity tasks (e.g., reach and grasp, overhead reach, finger opposition, etc), lower extremity tasks (e.g., sit to stands, knee drives, dev seq etc.), and global activities (e.g., transfers, lateral forearm to upright, plank, etc.).
Lokomat: Robotic Locomotion Therapy
The Lokomat is a body weight supported treadmill trainer that uses external orthoses (robotics) to help facilitate a normal walking pattern. Research supports that neural recovery is optimized with repetitive, intensive, and individualized exercises. The Lokomat provides just that, as well as performance feedback through a visual biofeedback and gaming system. In addition to promoting neural recovery, the Lokomat may help to improve circulation, decrease spasticity, and strengthen bones at risk for osteoporosis.
Erigo
The Erigo is an early rehabilitation system that combines robotic mobilization and functional electrical stimulation. It provides gradual verticalization with cyclic leg movement, allowing for safe and stable loading in the upright position. The Erigo counteracts the negative effects of immobility and accelerates recovery with sensorimotor stimulation.
Aquatic Training
Water exercises provide slow impact strengthening and conditioning for clients as well as allowing some individuals to work on walking in a body weight supported environment. Physical therapists and exercise specialists work 1:1 with clients in the on-site therapy pool providing health benefits to individuals with a variety of medical conditions.
Hydroworx®
The Hydroworx is an aquatic therapy pool that features an underwater treadmill, resistance jet technology and computer camera systems. This versatile system takes hydrotherapy to the next level by allowing for resistance adjustments as well as increased diagnostic capabilities throughout the session.
Alter G Anti-Gravity Treadmill
The Alter G utilizes NASA technology to unweight a patient, allowing them to rehabilitate with less pain. The patient is fitted in a pair of neoprene shorts which zip into an airtight plastic bubble from the waist down. The adjustable body weight support enables patients to build up strength in a safe manner which is monitored by a physical therapist. Built-in cameras on the treadmill allow for gait assessment throughout the therapy session.
Bioness Go
The Bioness Go is a foot drop system used during gait training that is designed to help people walk more naturally. The advanced technology delivers programmed, low-level electrical stimulation to activate nerves and muscles that lift the foot. The device can also be used with a thigh system during gait training and strengthening exercises that is designed to stimulate the muscles of the thigh. The addition of the thigh stimulation cuff, synchronized with the gyroscope in the lower cuff allows the system detect when the foot is on or off the ground; this allows either quadriceps or hamstring control of the knee, making it easier to walk.
Exoskeleton
The Ekso and the Indego are wearable bionic exoskeletons that enables clients with lower extremity weakness to stand up and walk over ground. The exoskeleton helps patients re-learn proper step patterns and weight shifts by using battery powered motors to drive the legs. Clients benefit from the upright, weight-bearing exercise in addition to the gait training.
Bioness Vector
The Vector by Bioness provides an overhead support system enabling clients with various levels of gait impairments to stand and walk. It is customized for each client and provides real-time monitoring. Clients are supported by an overhead tether during their gait training allowing them to safely attain challenging positions and maximize opportunities for strengthening and regaining walking function.
Andago
The Andago is an intensive and versatile overground gait therapy device which provides body weight support to clients during walking, bridging the gap between treadmill-based and free walking. The Active Patient-Following feature allows clients to participate in self-directed gait while in an upright and hands-free environment. The Andago utilizes mobile robotic technology to sense the client’s movement intention and actively follows their movements in a safe and efficient manner ensuring fall protection and safety at all times.
C-Mill
The C-Mill is a treadmill training device with body weight support that simulates challenges in everyday life, such as walking in a crowded area or avoiding obstacles, through augmented and virtual reality. Therapy on the C-Mill is based on the proven principles of motor learning: external focus of attention, variable practice, implicit learning, high training intensity, task specificity, and performance feedback. Thanks to its functional and challenging yet fun applications, the C-Mill offers an enjoyable and engaging therapy in a safe environment.
LokoStation Woodway Treadmill
The LokoStation by Woodway is specially designed for training and rehabilitating gait-impaired patients. With the Loko, therapists have the ability to quickly and conveniently redistribute the weight thanks to the off-loading system, enabling the patient to focus on coordination without running the risk of falling.
Bioness Integrated Therapy System (BITS)
BITS is a visuomotor program that features an interactive touchscreen display with a wide array of therapy categories. BITS is useful for improving abilities in individuals who have suffered traumatic injuries and movement disorders. It includes therapy options such as cognitive training, memory processing, balance training, hand-object-eye coordination amongst many others.
Armeospring
The Armeospring is an external orthosis for the upper extremity that unweights the upper arm and the forearm. The Armeospring provides performance feedback through a visual biofeedback and gaming system. The joints can be locked or unlocked to allow for focus on specific movements, or working on more global movements and coordination.
Amadeo
The Amadeo works on hand dexterity for strengthening grip and finger extension. It can also provide vibration and passive ROM to increase circulation. The Amadeo also provides performance feedback through a visual biofeedback and gaming system.
The Clinical Reformer
This Pilates reformer by Balanced Body works to build strength, flexibility, and the connection between your mind and body as you focus intently on each movement. The result is enhanced performance and far less chance of injury.
