Speech Pathologist
Katie Cassady, MA, CCC-SLP, C-IAYT, CBIS, graduated from the University of Michigan majoring in psychology and linguistics and went on to receive her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Northwestern University. She is also a certified yoga therapist and certified brain injury specialist.
Katie has nearly two decades of tenure with Craig Hospital, providing specialized care to persons with brain injury and spinal cord injury. She joined CHAT in 2019 as a primary clinician and developed mindfulness and yoga-based practices that are now a staple of the program. While she has since stepped back from her SLP role in CHAT, Katie continues to teach Embodied Practices for Language for each participant. Her holistic, whole patient approach has been integral to her style since the start of her speech pathology career, and is what inspired her to work toward a professional certification in yoga therapy. She is keenly attuned to breath and the subtleties of her patients’ overall experience, which has added a layer of depth to her treatment that allows patients to more closely and realistically examine their relationship with their language challenges. She received her 800-hour yoga therapy certification through Inner Peace Yoga Therapy and is certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
