Identifying How the Environment Affects Life with SCI Using Geographically Explicit Momentary Assessment (GEMA)

We are conducting a research study to understand the role that the community environment plays in the daily lives of people with spinal cord injury (SCI)

About the Program

We are seeking participants who: 

• Are age 18 or older
• Are living in the community with a spinal cord injury/disorder for at least 1 year
• Are living in the United States
• Leave your house a few days per week
• Are fluent in English
• Are comfortable using a Smartphone
• Have access to a computer/tablet for web-based interviews

Participation will include: 

1. An initial survey about participant background information, completed online.
2. A one time onboarding session to set up the required technology. This session will take approximately one hour, and can be done over Zoom or in person.
3. Three waves of data collection, each one week in duration, occurring over a timeline of six months.
   1. During each week of data collection, participants will be asked to log all of their regular trips out of the home with their Garmin device and complete momentary prompted surveys on their smart phone about their community experience.
   2. Each week of data collection will be followed by a scheduled, conversational interview that will take approximately one hour to complete and can also be done in-person or over the phone/Zoom.

Participants will be compensated after each wave for their participation.
