Please note: To participate in Scuba/Snorkel, medical clearance is required.

How to get involved with Scuba/Snorkel

Step One: Education. We are currently partnering with two local scuba shops – A-1 Scuba & Travel Aquatics Center and Denver Adaptive Divers – who offer adaptive scuba experiences. By attending one of Craig Hospital’s Scuba/Snorkel Orientations, you will learn the ins and outs of the magic of being underwater!

In orientations, we discuss the specialties within each shop and the experiences at both. You will get the opportunity to see and learn about the equipment that will be used prior to entering the pool.

Sign up for orientation in-person preferred. If you are out of state, please contact SCUBAteam@craighospital.org

Step Two: Exposure. After you complete the required orientation portion at Craig and complete all necessary forms including a scuba medical form signed by your physician (required for scuba participation), you will be eligible to try scuba in a pool. If you are not under active care of an MD/DO/NP at Craig Hospital, you must have the forms signed by your Primary Care Physician or member of your personal care team (MD/DO/NP). You will be diving with several professionals and dive buddies with adaptive dive training.

Step Three: Certification. Our community scuba partners will help to establish a plan to move towards certification. If you’re already certified but are interested in getting back into the water after injury, we can guide you to returning to scuba with maximal safety and enjoyment. Certification includes academic, pool and open water training.

Step Four: Trips and local opportunities. We have sponsored group scuba trips to the Caribbean since 2003! Craig Hospital is currently sponsoring an annual scuba trip which changes in location and community partner.

If you are interested in learning more about upcoming trips or completing your certification, please contact SCUBAteam@craighospital.org
