Craig Hospital Names Toby Huston, Ph.D., Vice President of Neurorehabilitative Services
Craig Hospital is pleased to announce that Toby Huston, Ph.D., has been selected as the hospital’s new Vice President of Neurorehabilitative Services.
Dr. Huston joined Craig Hospital in 2002 and spent 13 years as a rehabilitation psychologist in the spinal cord injury program before assuming the role of director of psychology in 2015. In that role, he was instrumental in developing innovative programs, including Craig’s neurobehavioral program for patients with brain injuries and a collaboration with Children’s Hospital Colorado to implement Child Life Services for children of Craig patients.
With more than 23 years of experience in rehabilitation psychology, Dr. Huston has contributed to numerous patient care and research initiatives and has published and presented widely on topics including rehabilitation psychology, spinal cord injury and quality of life. He has also been actively engaged in the leadership of several professional organizations, such as the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals.

As Vice President of Neurorehabilitative Services, Dr. Huston will provide strategic and operational leadership for Craig’s therapy and clinical services. These include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, clinical care management, recreational therapy, outpatient services, safety and emergency management, and patient and family housing. Dr. Huston will also serve as the hospital’s risk manager.
Dr. Huston looks forward to working closely with department directors, with a focus on mentorship, collaboration and innovation, while also serving as a key bridge between Craig’s executive leadership team and clinical staff. Dr. Huston shares, “It is an honor to serve an independent, not-for-profit organization that is able to prioritize what’s best for our patients, staff and the communities we serve.”
Reflecting on his long career at Craig, Dr. Huston speaks about the privilege of witnessing resilience firsthand. While the work can involve significant loss and trauma, he finds meaning in joining patients and their families on their personal journey to redefine themselves and rediscover what matters most after injury.
Beyond the walls of Craig, Dr. Huston values time spent with family. He has been married for 35 years and has two adult children who live in the Denver area. In his free time, Dr. Huston enjoys traveling to his off-grid property near Salida and Buena Vista, where he relishes all the outdoors has to offer.
